GETTING TO THE BEACH
Walking (or bicycling) to the sand
If you just want to stick your feet in the sand and the Pacific Ocean you can simply go west on Rosecrans Avenue, the main street location of the Westdrift hotel, and it will lead you directly to the beach after 1.5 miles (2,4 km).
Walking (or bicycling) to the Manhattan Beach Pier (downtown)
Downtown Manhattan Beach is 2.5 miles (4 km) from the hotel so it is a bit of a walk. There is a direct route through the neighborhood, however, and hotel guests can also use one of the hotel bicycles. Maps are available from the hotel.
Bicycling
The Westdrift hotel has a limited number of bicycles and helmets that can be checked out for the day, free of charge for hotel guests, on a first-come basis. These are beach-cruiser style bicycles appropriate more for the short distance to the beach than for the Tour de France. Please see the reception desk if interested.
Uber, Lyft, & Taxis
Uber, Lyft, and taxis are all available in Manhattan Beach and the wider Los Angeles area.
EXERCISING
HOTEL GYM & SWIMMING POOL
The Westdrift is equipped with a state-of-the-art Crossfit style gym on the lower level, as well as a heated outdoor swimming pool.
YOGA
Yoga apparel stores Prana and Athleta at the Point Outdoor Plaza (a 10-minute walk from the hotel) offer free yoga and other types of exercise classes (see their websites for schedules and details).
JOGGING
Unless we have extremely atypical weather it will be very comfortable to jog outside. See the hotel reception for tips on jogging trails and running directions to the beach. Next to the pier in downtown Manhattan Beach there are walking/running paths and beach volleyball courts.
